Metroidvania is a subgenre of 2D (sometimes 2.5D and rarely 3D) platforming games focused on guided non-linearity and utility-gated exploration. The term, coined by video game critic Jeremy Parish, is a portmanteau of Metroid and Castlevania. Typical features of this subgenre include, but are not limited to, progressively revealed minimaps, backtracking, and difficult boss fights.

The largest active Super Nintendo community on the internet! The Super Nintendo Entertainment System is Nintendo's second home console, following the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The console introduced advanced graphics and sound capabilities compared with other consoles at the time. Additionally, development of a variety of enhancement chips (which were integrated on game circuit boards) helped to keep it competitive in the marketplace.
